Although allowing vibrations to be dissipated via the cabling isn't ideal, that's where chuck55's vibes are going. I believe even in the most ideal of cable/roller setups, some energy is going to be transferred to the cabling. Also, it would be interesting to see some data on how much of the effects of roller bearings are due to the horizontal isolation versus the rigid vertical coupling. I'm willing to wager (speculate) that it's pretty damn close to 50/50, if not in favor of the rigid veritcal coupling. Do note that the character of the changes brought about by implementing rollers is very much the same as it is for cones. One of these days I'll get around to ruining a retired set of rollers in favor of exploring this question - I'll simply apply a dab of glue to the bottom of each ball after carefully auditioning them in rolling mode. Sure, there will be a lot of uncontrolled factors in this experiment, but if the results are profoundly different I may learn something from it.
