Hi Vuki,
I finally figured it out. The TDA1543A only accepts data in the OB (offset binary) format; the TDA 1543(N) accepts only in the two's complement format. The CS8412 only produces two's complement so it will never work with my TDA1543A. Nowhere is written in the Crystal or in the Philips datasheet about the two's complement format. Neither did I receive a dataheet (for TDA1543A) or response from Philips. I found it because some Philips digital filters produce the offset binary format; Philips cals it S-format. Do not ask me to explain the exact difference between the two formats. I am a digital Neandertaler.
But I got my DAC working with the TDA154AS1!!! WOW. See my new post.
Thanks for the help.
