The Ultimate Passive Preamp

From its low-mass RCA connectors to its unique compression-loaded open-frame wood chassis, from its analogue carbon composition attenuators to its precision stainless steel dowel pin feet, there's simply nothing that can touch it.

Just kidding. :)

I've been wanting a simple, utilitarian dual mono passive attenuator for using on the bench and cobbled this together this afternoon with stuff I had laying around.

It actually doesn't sound bad at all though. When used across the secondary of an input transformer and feeding an active stage, these particular carbon comp pots (10k log taper Series K made by Precision Electronic Components and available from Digi-Key for a little over $9 a pop) have sounded better to me than anything else I've used.

Anyway, just thought I'd pass it on in case someone wanted something that was inexpensive, easy to build, and cause people to ask "What the hell is that?" :)
