These late 50's military Sylvania 12AT7WAs are indeed wonderful- lush and deep but still articulate and open and with an amazing soundstage. As Mike_in_MD, mentions, I think these are a kind of specialized tube and I put them in my top three favourite 12AT7s:

Siemens triple mica E81CC
Valvo, Hamburg blue label 6201
Sylvania, black plate, square getter 12AT7WA

-and I've tried a lot of 12AT7s in my microphone preamp.

I use 8-12AT7s in my various gear and while I bought 8 of the Siemens and 6 of the Valvo, I liked the Sylvania so well, I've bought 12!

At $5 each, you've got an great bargain. My purchases- starting 4 years ago, averaged about $10 each.
