I've been playing with Differential PP for a line stage project
that has been cooking on the backburner for awhile. In my case,
5687s with a tail load CCS and Edcor 10K:150 outputs.

Above is a quick and dirty sketch of "other goofy ideas"...

(1). You can build as good of a CCS with Radio Shack parts for $4
or so. Get a pair of TIP3055 NPNs. Use the schematic in Morgan Jones
for his cascode current source... Red LED biased, some simple resistor values. You do need a negative supply though.

(2) An idea would be to use an Edcor 10K:10K as an interstage.
With the lowish drive requirements of EL84s or 6V6 triode - the
Edcor will handle it. They are $8.25 each and my measurements
on the scope indicate you can push 25V out of these things without
any problems. This is cheap and good transformer coupling. The
capacitor in the schematic are bypass caps not signal caps.

This is basically the Amity Amp - not on a budget, more like Welfare.
In fact, we should name this amp "Amity on Welfare". Amity on a
Budget would involve 6B4Gs, Dyna ST70 trannies and a pr of Lundahls..
This is even cheaper than that. :)
