...9 days now, and after this...

...initial work, I've since removed the MR/treble x-overs outboard...

...and rewired the tweeter and MR drivers. I used Audioquest's Rocket 88, a semiflat cable with 2 bundles of 2 paired of different-sized conductors. I ran one 'treble' bundle to the tweeter, one bass/MR bundle to the lower-MR driver, and both bundles to the MR driver. (The ugly white and bare stubs hanging around are for the not-yet-connected DBS system.)

After trying passive biamping of the bass, and then active filtering with a Dahlquist DQLP-1 AND an MXR grafic eq, today I decided to use the dbx DriveRackPA digital speaker-management system I've been using only on the SuperSubs. Am now using the middle section of the DriveRack to filter and eq the bass sections of the Avantis. The MR/treble signal goes straight from the preamp to the 2 Music Reference EM7-12 SET poweramps. (Previously I had used the top 2 sections of the DriveRack to actively filter and eq the 2 sections of the open-baffle line-array systems.)

Further thoughts:
1. The Avantis are still the best-sounding speaker I've hear long-term. They're still highly resolving and simply disappear with the music, no matter how badly I play about with the tonal balance.
2. I'm still astonished how good the 12-Watt Music Reference amps sound on these 91dB-sensitive (or 89dB according to 'Stereophile) speakers.
3. Am now using a pair of Marantz MA-500 poweramps on the bass, so I now have all 5 in my system, on center, 2 surrounds, and 2 Avanti bass sections.
4. My room has a 31Hz resonance node, and using the DriveRack's parametric eqs on both bass and subwoofers about removes the peak.

Will be removing the bass x-overs, hardwiring the bass drivers, and upgrading a few parts in the MR/treble x-over soon.

Sure is fun; I guess I needed an audio project. :-)
