Exactly! You understand... but so many others just don't get it!

Two way systems can sound wonderful! Even one way systems can too... but i like to enhance with a subwoofer on for the bottom and a supertweeter on top.

That makes them 3-way systems but, the big difference is that one driver handles MOST of the music. One driver acts as a point source... the sub and the supertweeter are crossed over very low and very high so distortion induced by the crossover is not audible.

Multi-driver speakers like the Legacy can fill a large room with sound (in the case of the Legacy... it will need a big amp tho because it's a difficult load to drive... just look at the impedance curve... below 2 ohm in a few places!!!). Fewer drivers typically provide much easier loads and are easier to drive... especially by tube amps... which in my opinion are better than solid state. So the Legacy has a dissadvantage from the start since it cannot be driven by better sounding tube amps.

Also, having built many speakers over the years i have become aware of the horrible fatiguing sound of crossovers... the crap sound of a human voice being played thru a cone only to be handed off to a dome for higher notes... uhg... not to mention the power sucking monsters complicated crossovers are... sucking the life right out of the music... flat frequency response be damned!

Once an audiophile hears the sound a crossover contribues to the overall sound of a speaker... he/she will never like multiway speakers with crossovers in critical ranges of the music... like the Legacy.

Again, i have never heard the Legacy's. I do know they use expensive parts... but a more simple 2 or 3-way using some of the same components would probably sound better. A guess I am willing to make based on my (limited, hobbiest) experience.

I think the folks who like this speaker or similar multi way designs with lots of crossovers mucking up the sound and terrorizing an amp... reviewers or consumers... just haven't heard better, less complicated quality designs side by side... or haven't yet discoverd the musically detrimental sound characteristics of crossovers.

So there!

Peace. And happy new year to all!
