More on Optical USB Cable

After reading the threads on the optical USB cable I decided to give one a try. I needed a long USB cable anyway so it wasn't completely foolish.

It can very quickly (the company is less than 100 miles away!), it installed with no problems at all.

The sound through this cable is astounding. I wasn't expecting very much but was astonished by the improvement to the sound of the DAC. I've been listening to it for a week and would not want to go back!

The device end (opposite from the computer) has a small "wall-wart" PS, which looks to be a switching PS. Today I tried it with a better supply, I added another regulator to my DAC supply and ran the device end of the cable from that. That was yet another significant improvement in sound. Its more open, detailed yet smoother all at the same time.

Definately worth the price even if you don't need the long distance cable. The improvement in sound was similar in kind to the improvement from putting the DAC on roler bearings, but an even bigger improvement than that. A lot of people spend far more money on improvements that result in far less of an improvement.

Its hard to describe the sound now, its so open, clean, clear, detailed yet effortless, music is just there.

I did a comparison to my CEC belt drive player and they didn't even seem to be playing the same music. The CEC was so veiled, murky and flat sounding in comparison I can't imagine how I ever liked it. The USB DAC with this cable is so alive its downright scary.

Highly recommended.
