Ok, I've had a few of the recommended versions, viz., Davis and Beecham. Along comes another on two Linn hybrid SACDs, and it's the Dublin version by Butts and the Dunedin.

If nothing else, the sound is fantastic. You can understand every word. Ok, the chorus is only 12 and includes the soloists. Very fine singing and the orchestral work is very good on period instruments in a lighter arrangement than the traditional.

Do I like it best of all I've heard? I think so. Whatever the judgment, this is a worthwhile version of this masterpiece in exceptional sound and I'm just listening to the CD layer on my living room system, my SACD system has a broken amp at this time. Could it get any better on SACD?
