MMG with sub is best

I agree with most of what lne937s says. Given the lack of the quasi-ribbon tweeter, the MMG will sound better on the highs. Also the MMG has much greater bass extension, viz. 50Hz versus 100Hz; this is important because there is significant stereo information between 80 and 100Hz, (much less below 80Hz).

I use my MMG with a PSB Subsonic 6 subwoofer. I use the MMGs without a high pass filter. The MMGs have a pretty steep roll-off beginning at 60Hz, so I use only the sub's low-pass set at about 55Hz. The MMGs and sub integrate extremely well this way.

But I have also used the MMGs and the sub with a Paradigm X-30 active cross-over. In this case I used the X-30's 80Hz high-pass to feed my main amp and hence the MMGs; the sub's low-pass was set at about 80Hz. This arrangement produced much better mid-bass dynamics than the above at the expense of some bass precision and control. Since I listen mainly to chambe music I prefer the preceeding.

I don't entirely agree that the MMGs are hard to place. Mine are set only about 2.5' from the wall behind, but I use a rear wave deflector to ensure good highs and imaging. See my arrangement below. The deflector (baffle) is made of ceiling tile and set angled outward at 45 degrees with respect to the speakers.
