An alternative to removing the tweeter fuse

Although many Inmates have reported that removing the tweeter fuse and fuse holder has improved the high frequency response, I am a bit reluctant to take that step. I haven't blown a fuse in my 26 or so years of owning my MGIII's, it's just that, well... I may take that step if I ever get around to the project MGIII's gathering dust in the spare bedroom. Certainly I would remove the mid panel fuse as I feel that is very low risk.

Anyhoo... I saw that a seller of audiophile fuses is having a "summer sale", plus is open to "make an offer" on eBay, and decided to take the plunge. I replaced just the tweeter fuses at first to evaluate the effect one piece at a time. I have to say that the change far exceeded my expectations. The attack is crisper and the overall effect is better control and clarity, like the proverbial veil has been lifted on the high end. (I've lifted so many veils with different upgrades the last couple of years that Maggie would be down to her g-string if her name was Salome...)

I also changed the fuse for the midrange panel. The effect was less in the mids, to the point that I would hesitate to recommend it. I have replaced the fuses in the power amps, preamp, and CD player, with the active crossover next. The largest improvement was in the tweeter and the CD player, followed by the power amps, then the pre, with the midrange panel having the least effect. The brand/model of fuses I used is HiFi Tuning SilverStar, but not having used any other high end fuses I can't say if they are any better or worse than others.

Regards,

Steve
