I haven't tried with redbook CD's yet, but I can hear a definite difference in a stereo SACD. I put on Eric Bibb's "Just Like Love" Opus 3 SACD, and I mainly used the second track, "Charleston Dream". When the default was MCH, the sound was somehow murkier, and Bibb's voice and the instrumental sound were all mixed together. After I stopped and changed the default to 2CH, the sound was clearer, the plucked strings were pluckier, Bibb's voice was easier to understand, and my foot started tapping. Distrusting my memory, I turned it off, reset the default to MCH, and restarted. Murky sound, voice and instruments muddled up, and no urge to tap my foot. You're right, something is afoot and it's not too subtle. Someone has made a design mistake somewhere. This is easy for you to handle, since you aren't interested in multichannel. However, I am, and I would like to leave the default as MCH. But if I do, I will have to remember to change the default every time I switch back and forth between stereo and multichannel, which negates the value of even having a default. Damn. Have you formulated any hypothesis as to what might be going on? I started this test figuring to refute you and get you to quit repeating your blurb, and most others seem to pass it right by, also.
