Denon 5900/2900 Laser Issues...

I am writing here to follow up on a thread that began by Audio Pharaoh -

In short, I want to thank A.P. for sharing the experiences with his Denon 5900 that was having trouble reading certain SACD's, etc. His local tech actually fixed the unit, saying that the problem was in the power supply and some parts in the laser circuitry. He wouldn't be more specific, but it was enough for me to zero in on the area.
The result is that I DID locate a potential weak point in the power supply serving the laser circuitry and the fix DOES in fact involve replacing a handful of parts and improving power quality to the circuit. Please don't take this to mean that there is a problem with the main power supply - rather one of the voltages from the power supply to the laser circuitry is merely weak.
I won't elaborate, except to say that if anyone HAS this problem with the unit, it is very fixable and is NOT likely the result of a bad drive/laser. It is still possible that a unit could have a defective laser assembly of course - this happens with all mfrs. from time to time - but I believe that there is a design issue here that is not related to laser hardware itself.
Any units that we work on here, will obviously have these changes implemented, to insure proper operation of the gear.
