This may be of interest to you. I have written today to BAX President Dennis S. Eitreim the following letter:

Wednesday, March 29, 2006

TO: Dennis E. Eitreim

Dear Mr. Eitreim,

I am writing to you to alert you to what I suspect is a mistaken policy that BAX Global has with regard to insuring loudspeaker shipments in particular. As the importer of some very fine loudspeakers from Denmark, it came as a surprise to find out that BAX Global’s policy is to insure such shipments for no greater than $500.00. Our loudspeakers start at a retail price of $10,000.00/pair and increase in value to $70,000.00/pair.

While this may seem excessive to some, the more operative fact that may be of concern to you and BAX Global is that loudspeakers with wholesale values over $500.00 are produced by hundreds upon hundreds of companies in the USA alone, and many more are imported into the US from Europe and Asia.

In my effort to ship with BAX today I was told that this policy could not be overridden and when I explained that Yellow Freight offered appropriate insurance for the value of our products, it was suggested that I avail myself of their services. I’m not entirely sure that you, at the top of your company, are aware that those involved in the business of your business are suggesting that I take my business elsewhere.

I have alerted several resources that loudspeaker manufacturers use so that they may more easily inform their clients of this change in BAX policy. Among those that I have alerted are the Audio Engineering Society, Voice Coil magazine, and various online resources as I believe it is important that loudspeaker manufacturers, wholesalers, and resellers are aware that their shipments cannot be insured for proper value by BAX Global.

I also hope to encourage you and your company to reconsider this policy and offer appropriate insurance for the loudspeaker products that we sell and ship.

Best regards.

Chris Sommovigo

I am sending this letter FedEx to Mr. Eitreim in the hope that it actually reaches him. I would encourage others likewise affected to do the same.
