None of the above, in my case. My problem with him is not that he "gores my ox," as you put it, but that he lies, pure and simple.
Don't believe me? Read his rant referred to in the posting that
starts this thread, where he compares my editing of Stereophile
unfavorably with that of J. Gordon Holt, vis-a-vis the peter belt
devices. I would bet good money that you come away convinced that
whereas J. Gordon Holt saw through the Belt devices, Art Dudley
and myself (the 2 Stereophile staffers mentioned by name by Randi)
are promoters of Belt's gear and recommend it. Yet the reality is
that to the best of my knowledge Art has never expressed an opinion
on the Belt devices while I have poured scorn on them (see
http://www.stereophile.com/asweseeit/787).
He has repeatedly pulled this kind of dishonest shit when he has
discussed Stereophile on his website. The last time I called him on
it, he admitted to me that he had been incorrect but refused to
publish my corrective letter on the grounds that his readers were
"bored" of the subject. Yet the very next week, he treated those
bored readers to yet another false attack on me.
You may like what Randi says, but to me he is just a dishonest old
carnie, looking for publicity wherever he can drum it up.
