Or was it 4,or 2 or...
Anyway, after two weeks of phone tag I finally got a day and time for Brent from UPS to come and inspect my damaged Reference 3A MM DeCapo-i.I had the box, packing and all the necessary paperwork present. After a brief how are ya he checked out the speaker. It had a small squashed in spot on the top rear corner and a crack in the veneer from the dent to the bottom of the speaker. The speaker works fine.I had an e-mail fom Diane at Divergent Technologies with the replacement cost for a new cabinet, labor and shipping. It came to 590.00 to take the inside of my speaker and put it in a new cabinet.I told him I didn't want a new speaker, just wanted this one fixed. The first thing he did was take one of the corner styrofoam wedges, all 4 corner pieces were broken, and hold it up to the speaker to see how much room top and bottom was left for packing. No problem here.It was an easy 2 inches on top and bottom. Then he inspected the box.The corner was smashed in and also had a hole by the dent and another hole elsewhere in the box.At that time I mentioned the speakers had TWICE been shipped from the Illinois hub to Kokomo,Indiana instead of to me in Michigan.he seemed very interested and tried finding a mistake in the shipping tags on the box.Perhaps a mistake on the shippers part by leaving a tag from the original purchase???He could not find anything on the box why it got misshipped.Which I think was good for me.I quickly added that it certainly didn't help being misshipped twice. He agreed. He pawed thru the box looking at the packing material.Hard to see what belonged where because everything was totaled. It still amazes me the speakers made it as clean as they are.He then began making notes of the round stamp on the bottom of the box that says how much weight the box is designed for.At this point I asked what the next step would be.He then announced that he would be turning the claim into the insurance company and they would then be contacting Divergent Technology about cost of repair.I was a bit surprised.I said that's it??Yes.It looked pretty clean cut.The box had obviously been dropped from a great height and the packing was sufficent.I told him I was surprised that it was this easy after the horror stories I had read on the net about UPS.He said he denies claims based solely on packaging.Pack it correctly and if UPS bungles it they will pay.UPS will be contacting Divergent Tech about repairs and mailing them a check.Which I said was fine.

The entire meeting took about 45 minutes. We talked about our children, stereo equipment, guitars. The majority of conversation was not about the speaker.I did not come on strong and tried to engage him in an easy going manner.

So now again I wait.He said to contact the people at Divergent Tech about the claim and they will be contacted by UPS about repair.I am hoping this is wrapped up.And also keeping my fingers crossed nothing else creeps into the picture to screw it up.Anything I should be aware of at this point people??

And yes I am enjoying the deCapos.Paired with a new Eastern Electric M520 Int amp they are revealing/detailed but not cold or piercing.A real walk thru the recording studio. If a cd is poorly recorded this rig will tell ya.
