To give the sentence a fuller due: "Defending a crackpot, bogus,
obvious audio tweak by invoking the possibility of scientific
breakthroughs is an insult to all the men and women who dedicate
their lives to achieving... a much more modest scientific
breakthrough..."Hmm... Not even the possibility of a breakthrough is to be allowed us here, much less an actual breakthrough. No no no. Can't have that! The most that can ever be claimed, according to this luminary from the Academy, is a modest breakthrough.
This is valuable information. NSTAASB.
Should there ever be another (God forbid!) Einstein, he damn well better be respectful of Mr. Austin's sensibilities and not go off acting like he's really got something. Because as we all now know, that would offend all the men and women who... labor as lesser lights.
NSTAASB. Thank you, Mr. Austin. As to the Chip being a "crackpot, bogus, obvious audio tweak" -- I'm happy to see that Mr. Austin agrees it's an obvious audio tweak, but of course they called lots of guys crackpots who now are enshrined in the halls of academe. But "bogus"? I'd like to see the proof for that.
Science is all about proof, so let's put it on the table Mr. Austin. Make it transparent for us. And in this instance we are not going to let you simply reiterate that there's No Such Thing As A Scientific Breakthrough.
