Yep, and I lost a lot of respect for Theta swallowing his line hook line and sinker. There's no way for you to know, but I do understand DSD at a deep level and it's clear that Moncrieff doesn't. He has it confused with delta modulation, which it isn't, it is sigma-delta modulation, there isn't any averaging going on and the slew rate is only limited by the output filter, not by any step size.

As I mentioned elsewhere, I'm glad Theta isn't attempting a DSD DAC or SACD player if their heart isn't in it.

Since you mentioned Hawksford, check out "Parametrically Controlled Noise Shaping in Variable State-Step-Back Pseudo-Trellis SDM" from the AES 115th: a paper by him on enhancements to DSD sigma-delta converters.
