I have a fairly well broke-in 4900. Unbelievably great sound for the $. It hasn't displaced my Theta Data II, Digital Lens, Cal Alpha rig, but few would notice the differences. The high-end rig is more "musical," for lack of a better term, a little more open, but I just tend to think of it as different. The 4900 is more detailed, a bit less depth, density, and tonal accuracy. Running the 4900 in transport mode the differences are even less apparent. The 4900 passes more info. Theta Data II = $2800.00; Toshiba 4900 = $79.00. BTW, without the Genesis Digital Lens, the stock Toshiba walks all over the Theta/Cal. IMO.
