From what I remember of the NAIM gear, the speaker cable is tightly specified because of the lack of Zobel (compensating) network on the output of the amplifier. The wrong cable can cause the amplifier to oscillate. NAIM also state that the cable should be at least 3m long to ensure sufficient inductance.
