You might think I am crazy, but the Eastern Electronics MiniMax will give you what you want.Don't be fooled by the price. I have compared it to preamps costing 3-4 times its price and it still was the preamp I preferred.
If I didn't need a balanced preamp, I would definitely own one.
If you don't have a local dealer, contact Bill O'Connell and he can set up an audition.
BTW, I actually used the MiniMax with an x250.
I thought it took away a little bit of the bite and grain that the x250 was producing.
One last thing... you absolutely have to ditch the stock tubes and go with some NOS.
