I like Geoff's set-up. Forget exotic precut wood - too expensive - and not as good as marble or ceramic. What also works well, is an adobe block. When I lived in NM I used adobe bricks under my Quick .......

Try the Ubyte cables mentioned in TNT audio reviews. They do the trick of having low capacitance, and more importantly for Quads, low inductance. Not an easy feat. .......

I would suggest a Bob Latino amp. Tubes4hifi (posts on Bob's Dynaco forum) has other Dynaco amps as well. So all the classic Dynaco amps are covered by these two sources. Some speakers don't respond .......
